Maricla Pannocchia is an author of YA novels. Born and raised in Italy, she considers herself a "citizen of the world". Her debut novel in English, "Letters from Afghanistan", provides readers with an intriguing concept of how the life of a regular American teenager changes when she becomes friends with an Afghan girl her own age. The book has been received with enthusiastic reviews by readers of all ages, from all around the world.
Pannocchia has decided to release the novel for free to encourage as many people as possible to read it due to the topics it tackles. Even though the novel is a great starting point to better understand the struggles of Afghan girls, Pannocchia's main goal with this book is to give Western readers a tool to make them realize how lucky we all are and how we all can do something to make the world a better place.
Pannocchia is no strange to this concept. The three books she has already written and published (in her native language, Italian) have received great reviews and coverage. In 2014, she has set up her own NGO "Adolescenti e cancro" (Teens and Cancer), which she still runs, to provide teens and young people with cancer with free recreational activities and to bring much needed awareness about the reality of childhood and teenage cancer.
She also loves travelling. She's the kind of person who'd pack a bag right now to start travelling for months. No surprise, she is a Sagittarius! In January 2022 she has undertaken her first mission to refugee camps in Turkey with Italian NGO "Support and Sustain Children" to meet with the people living in the camps, connect with them and give them a voice through her writing. Pannocchia, whose book about her experience in the field as well as reflections of the topics of refugees and human rights should be available on March 2022 to support the aforementioned organization, has many other trips planned and her goal is to use her passion and talent for writing to both provide readers everywhere with compelling, thought-provoking stories to better understand the world we live in and to reach those places herself, to mingle with those people and make a the world a better place.
